Meet Tamekia Shaw

Tamekia's journey into the world of candle-making began as a personal retreat during the challenging times of COVID-19. With a background as a nurse tech and a deep love for scents and home-making, she discovered the therapeutic art of candle-making. Growing up with a brother in construction and interior design and a cousin who designs unique furniture pieces, creativity runs in her family.

Originally from Jamaica, Tamekia cherishes her roots and the supportive family she has there. Her Jamaican heritage inspires the warmth and authenticity infused into every candle she makes.

Our Inspiration

The inspiration behind Meeks Candle co. stems from Tamekia’s desire to spend more time with her family and focus on a passion that brings her joy. Candle-making became her escape, a form of art that allowed her to express herself and create something meaningful.

“My family is very supportive,” Tamekia shares. “Making candles for me is like a getaway. It’s my art.”

Our Craft

Tamekia learned the intricacies of candle-making through YouTube tutorials and hands-on experimentation with candle kits. Her dedication to using clean, natural ingredients led to the creation of a vegan line of candles. This commitment is rooted in a personal mission:

“I use non-toxic vegan wax because I’ve seen my grandmother getting sick from harsh chemicals and I wanted to make sure my daughter isn’t affected. It’s all about building a safe environment for your home.”
